Hast Du irgendwelche Boot-Parameter mit nomodeste oder modeset angegeben?

Benenne das einmal in xorg.conf.bak um und starte neu.

ich hatte gestern nomodeset als Kernel-Parameter mit angegeben - das stand so in einem der Treffer die ich auf der Suche nach meinem Problem gefunden habe - mitlerweile ist das aber wieder draußen. Zumindest im Bootloader-Eintrag finde ich es nicht mehr.
In /etc/modprobe.d gibt es einige Einträge.

Ja - ohne erfolg.
Ich habe eine alte auf dem System vorhandene kopiert - und auch mal nach einer Vorlage eine neue erstellt.
Benenne das einmal in xorg.conf.bak um und starte neu.
In der xorg.conf ist nichts drin.
Ich habe die Datei lediglich erstellt, weil es einen Link XF86Config->xorg.conf gibt...

nachdem ich modesetting für xf86 installiert habe, läuft bei startx mehr als vorher.
Ein Abruch kommt trotzdem - aber später:

ich habe eine der alten, gesicherten DAteien in nach xorg.conf kopiert - und dann startete der Xserver.
Allerdings kann ich mich da nicht als root anmelden...
Ist das normal? Bisher ging das...

Auch als normaler User kann ich mich nicht am Login des X-Server anmelden!?

OK - den letzten Fehler habe ich auch noch gefunden.
in /etc/sysctl/windomanager stand kde4 - Nach Änderungen in kde konnte ich mich problemlos einloggen...
