Hello Suse experts,
immediately after installing leap15.4 on my dell e6430 with i7-2670QM I got kernel crashes once in about 24h. leap15.3 had been working without any such problems. Based on former experiences with leap 42.x I wanted to upgrade to a more recent but stable kernel.
good news: I managed to do that because I remembered how it was done before and therefore finally found all the bits and peaces. And the problems appear to have disappeared
But I did not feel very comfortable asking myself:
- why didn't I find an up to date explanation how to do that explicitely referring to leap 15.4 ?
- why where those outdated tutorials refer to repositories no more existing or empty ?
- why does opensuses kernel stable repo exist when I can't use it due to an outdated (!) glibc in leap 15.4 ?
- why is the working kernel backport repo only providing *one* kernel (5.19) since the leap 15.4 standard 5.14 ?
- why is leap15.4 using an outdated glibc at all ?
Of course there will be individual answers to each of the questions, we all are not stupid (i guess).
But the total picture gave me the idea it might not be possible to work with a recent kernel that easy at all !
bottom line:
for someone familiar with the repo organisation and planning it should be easy and straightforward to setup a 'kernel stable tutorial' for leap 15.4 based on those earlier tutorials, just using actually working repositories.
Thank You in advance !
